Home Birth Hawkes Bay

This group is co-ordinated by a collective of local women, who are passionate about supporting families interested in making informed, empowering birthing choices.

We aim to:

  • Provide information and support for people who wish to learn about homebirth

  • Assist these families practically and emotionally

  • Increase public awareness of the homebirth option

Our support & resources:

  • The families of our collective are willing to share their many different pregnancy, labour, birth and parenting experiences.

  • We run a roster that supports new families by dropping off meals & baking and helping out with housework during the newborn period.

  • We maintain a library that includes an extensive range of “positive-birth” journals published by nationwide homebirth groups, a copy of “the pink kit”, a homeopathic birth kit. The library is made available to families who are not necessarily planning a homebirth but wish to read positive, can-do material written about normal birth.

  • We run a baby / toddler / maternity clothing and equipment exchange.

  • We can provide access to birth pools.

Home Birth Hawkes Bay meets on the first Friday monthly for a shared morning tea shared & the last Friday seasonally for supper. Periodically we meet for Ladies nights out, clay sculpting and family BBQ’s. Annually we celebrate International Day of the Midwife on May 5th and Homebirth Awareness Week which begins on Labour Day. Currently we meet at homes around Napier and Hastings, for further details please contact:
