Who are we?

The West Coast Home Birth Association consists of a group of families who are delighted that planned home birth is once again an option on the Coast. We are a voluntary group who wish to ensure that home birth remains available to families in our region. We believe that pregnancy and birth are normal, natural, active processes. Currently approximately 9% of births each year on the West Coast are at home. Although home birth is not for every one, by choice or circumstance (eg twins), we feel that more women would consider home birth if they knew that the option was available with the support and high level of care provided by the Independent Midwives. The home birth group offers a non-medical perspective on this option.   So, if you have had a homebirth or would like to know more about services available for homebirth mothers, you are welcome to contact us by email or phone

 

Aims / Objectives

• To provide a support network for birthing mothers, families and support people.

• To increase awareness of planned home birth as a safe option and as an alternative to hospital birth.

• To provide a relaxed, informal, friendly forum for the sharing of information, experience and knowledge.

• To support home birth midwives.

• To keep informed of, and have a voice in, national home birth and maternity issues.

• To maintain a booksharing library.

• To make available the birthing pool and baby wrap for hire.

• To provide regular newsletters.

• To meet monthly.

 

Membership

Currently we have a membership of approximately 20 consumers and 3 full-time midwives.   Annual membership subscription costs vary according to your budget.

 

Meeting Times and Dates

Last Tues/Weds of each month for coffee mornings at a member’s house.
